Hardcore may not be what it used to be, but these kids sure look like they are going to have some fun before the rug is pulled out by Hot Topic and MTV2.

IW: Abridged - Mittens on Strings

IW Abridged - Mittens on Strings
Look Up the Sky
Emperor Jones

Mittens on Strings are a small gaggle of Kentucky boys who rock off-kilter pop songs that at times seem held together by thin metal wire or twine. There's a loose feel, like a pick-up session or a sing-along. Textures and instrumentation are tacked, taped and glued on to the sides as the charming songs jog past. Acoustic guitars, accordion, often understated electric guitar, drum-machine (ill-advised for this guy) and even some mandolin make the ride. Along with the off-kilter song structure come some quirky lyrics that often work well and don't bog the whole disc down. For fans of lo-fi folk-rock with pretty flourishes and a wee bit of dark thrown in. Ignoring a cut or two that are overly-quirky you've got a strong disc of late-nite, summery, alt.-country-ish/indie-pop sounds that are sure please.

2006-09-19
Yep, another FilmThreat link.

This time the site's Sally Foster reviews American Hardcore. She says "Much like the hardcore scene itself, this film is more about facts and the ideas behind the movement than looking nice". Uh, has she been to a hardcore show in the last five years?
