opera and shrooms?

Fans of hip hop have more sexual partners than indie kids or metal heads?

Classical music fans smoke a lot of weed?

These are some bits of info from a new research project coming from the University Of Leicester who are currently compiling data to track people's lifestyles to their music tastes.

The man behind the project is psychologist Adrian North. He recently told reporters that "Surprisingly there have been very few studies on how people's age, sex, socio-economic status and personality relate to the music they enjoy listening to".

The survey has now been opened up wider and North is asking people to take part by answering questions online.

Is there a Pitchfork effect?

There's a pretty good article up on Wired about the so-called "Pitchfork Effect". Good read, I say.

New political networking site
2006-09-08
Yes, yes. networking sites seem all the rage these days, i know. but this time our friend Eric Morse over at TrampolineHouse.com has started one with an actual purpose.

theblocparty.org is a networking site centered around politics. The site features a user video section and tons of voter resources. the site itself is bipartisan, calling for discussion and respectful debate.

the US is coming up on one of it's most important elections and this might be a good place to share ideas and get informed.

Douche of the Day
2006-09-07
As if she could get any more fucking attention, it was just reported that Paris Hilton got a DUI a little after midnight last night. Her publicist said she had one margarita on an empty stomach (empty stomach?! Not Paris!) after "working" all day on a video for the monstrosity of an album, "Paris". Really, when will this fad of a human being be gone?

Wagerweb.com, a website for compulsive betters recently held an odds pool for which celebrity would be the next to get a DUI, on the list along with this, one of the world's worst human beings, was Tara Reid, Jenna Bush, Mary Kate Olsen, and Kid Rock. Paris had 2 to 1. Mel Gibson had 21 to 1 odds, wish I would have taken that bet.

Along with poker, horse racing and anything else that you and I foolishly bet on with your friends, Wagerweb also has bets and odds on which characters will die in the next Harry Potter Book, Whether or not John Mark Karr killed Jon Benet Ramsey, and who will win the trainwreck of the race-segregated Survivor.

IW: Abridged - The Lonesome Heroes

IW Abridged - The Lonesome Heroes
Don't Play to Lose - EP
Floodwater Records

A beautiful collection of five slightly twisted country songs, dipped in a lysergic bath, and swathed in heavenly lap-steel, "Don't Play to Lose" is an encouraging look at the future of Country music, rebuilt from the parts of the past.

Singer/songwriter Rich Russell delivers a slightly deadpan lead over very simple acoustic guitar strums. But then the addition of singer/songwriter/lap steelist (?) Landry McMeans' many tones takes this solid and somewhat traditional musical base to another, more psychedelic level.

For fans of the Handsome Family, Little Wings, the Cowboy Junkies, and junky cowboys everywhere, Don't Play to Lose is hopefully a sign of good things and more sad songs to come from the Lonesome Heroes.
