![]() | Murder City Devils - Rock and Roll Won't Wait |
Directed by James Bazan
Anybody that knows me knows how I feel about the Murder City Devils – that they are quite possibly the best rock band of the last 20 years, and not since "Appetite" era Guns N' Roses (or maybe Entombed recently) has a band made me want to be a rock star so badly. They have something about them that's just a cool, rock and roll…aura. I've always loved the imagery that this band used-it seems very classic (although in all my searching through old punk and rock bands, I have never found one that the MCD even resemble).
This documentary on the Seattle band didn't change my mind about anything. I still like them. When they were a band, I never met any of the guys (or girl) and don't remember even reading any interviews, so it's nice to get a personal look at the band. I had heard a few people say how the MCD were "dicks" or whatever, but I didn't really get that impression from the film (of course, people can always play nice for the camera, but…whatever). There's interesting footage of the band opening for Pearl Jam, talking about a run-in with Dennis Rodman, and your average show/tour footage, as well as one on one interviews with the band members. It was interesting to hear some of the band member's feelings on the current state of "rock" and how they fit into it. I don't know jack squat about "film" or "cinematography" or what have you, but I thought the quality was good. There wasn't anything that I thought was done badly and the sound was descent in the live sections.
The "extras" section includes a trailer for the film and the videos for "18 Wheels" and "Bunkhouse" which is also on the enhanced portion of the "In Name and Blood" album.
If you're a big fan of the Murder City Devils, you should get this (if you already have it on VHS, it's your call), if you're a casual fan or not a fan at all, maybe a friend has it and you can watch theirs.
