"It is with great sadness that I must tell you we have had to cancel our forthcoming US Tour, due to the development of tendonitis in Barry's left wrist. He has been advised to rest and, as far as we can see, there is no way of us being able to make those shows work, given the state of his wrist. We are all deeply disappointed at having to pull the shows at such a late stage, but there is no way around it for us. Apologies to the people with tickets - we promise to get out to the US at the next available opportunity. The UK tour will not be affected by this given that there are some months progress toward recovery, and only rest will enable that.

Thanks for your understanding"

The band that Lester Bangs called "the first true heavy metal band" formed in the late 1960's in San Francisco named themselves after a brand of LSD created by Owsley Stanley (Grateful Dead). They performed with the MC5, Jefferson Airplane, Vanilla Fudge, Ike & Tina Turner, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Clear Light, Captain Beefheart, and more. They temporarily split in 1971 but reunited in '79. The second incarnation would go on to tour with The Yardbirds, Biohazard, Danzig, Mucky Pup, and others.

This past year they have toured the US with Witch (featuring J Mascis), Dead Meadow, Goblin Cock, and others. They also performed at Vice's 2006 Intonation Festival.

The current lineup features Richard "Dickie" Peterson on lead vocals and bass, and Paul Whaley on drums. The two are joined by Duck MacDonald on guitar.

There are plans to release a new album next year.

The folks behind the campaign will work in the promotion of reducing the impact festivals leave on local environments in terms of waste, traffic, CO2 emissions, noise, water pollution and land damage. It has been coordinated by music industry lawyer Ben Challis, who has said, "The site is designed to help promoters and organisers - not preach to them".

Based out of Europe, the site's organizers recently told CMU, "Many festivals have realised that their environmental impacts can be minimised by managing CO2 emissions and facilitating green waste disposal, and festivals such as Glastonbury and Bestival have led the way in combating the inevitable problems on-site. However festivals have certain unique impacts of the environment - with thousands of people often living together under canvas in confined areas with high noise levels and with unusual problems - like how to recycle thousands of discarded tents - and what to do with that pile of unwanted fairy wings. By making this research available, agreenerfestival.com acts hopes to be a resource for festival organisers as they turn to the task of preparing next summer's round of live music. Over the coming months, the team will develop pointers, guides and practical
directions for delivering greener festivals. And the site will look to advise festival goers themselves on how they can make their festival summer a little greener."

The person then gained access to the album before it was available for purchase and posted the link online resulting in it being sold out before it even went up for sale. The band has issued a letter explaining:

"As some of you may have heard, the limited, colored vinyl of "Every Red Heart Shines Toward the Red Sun" that was exclusive to Neurot Recordings was sold out before it actually went on sale. Unfortunately someone managed to hack into the Neurot Recordings webstore and gain access to this item before it was available. To make things worse, this person actually posted a link to the hidden section of the Neurot Recordings webstore on a forum, which allowed anyone to purchase this item.

We realize how frustrating this is for the fans that were patiently waiting for the sale. To remedy this situation, Neurot Recordings is refunding everyone that ordered the album using the illegal link and *all copies will go back on sale as they were intended*. In other words, *don't worry if you've been waiting anxiously to get the record, you'll still get your chance*.

We apologize to anyone that ordered the record thinking that the link was valid. We hope that you understand that, by ordering the album before it was actually for sale, you basically cut in front of a line of people that were waiting to purchase this item. Although you may not have realized this
at the time, we ask you to understand that we must sell the record in a way that will be fair to everyone. When the record officially goes on sale you will have a chance to purchase it along with everyone else.

To the person who posted the illegal link: We hope you understand how much work and frustration this has caused, not only to us, Red Sparowes, but to our good friends at Neurot Recordings.

Thanks,

Red Sparowes."

Silversun Pickups to tour with Wolfmother

Silversun Pickups will join Wolfmother on their upcoming tour set to launch in November. Are you tired of having to schlep yourself to Chicago all the time to attend them?

Are you looking for an excuse to go to Europe? Already going? Need plans to fill out your otherwise walking-filled days of backpacking from hostel to hostel? Want something that's not in your Lonely Planet guide that you can spend some hard earned Euros on?

Enough questions. The answer may just be The eighth Tanned Tin Festival, taking place in Castellon, Spain, being held in the Teatre Principal. According to the organizers, the driving idea behind this festival is to "provide a small appetizer of what we consider to be the most interesting things happening in the independent, international music scene," and to "bring innovative and exciting proposals to Spain or simply the most stunning and sincere projects that pop, rock, folk, electronic and its most unlikely combinations have to offer." Past favourites have included Animal Collective, the New Year, and Julie Doiron.

Sounds good. But I'm sure you want to know the lineup for this year. Here it some of it: Portastatic, Dakota Suite, The Montgolfier Brothers, Annelies Monsere, Manyfingers, Psychic Ills, Lisa Germano, I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness, Mouthus, Darren Hayman & Band, Apse, David Grubbs, Spires that in the Sunset Rise, Nick Castro, Six Organs of Admittance, The Secret Society, His Name is Alive, Carla Bozulich, and Hrsta.

If that's not enough, they've just announced the inclusion of Okkervil River, M. Ward, David Thomas Broughton, Matt Elliott, The Magik Markers, The One Ensemble of Daniel Padden and Radio Dept. into the lineup. Also, performances by local bands Litius and El Hijo + Grupo Salvaje will be performing covers of Johnny Cash tunes to celebrate the release of his autobiography.

If you go I'm jealous.

Tickets will be on sale starting October 4. You can find out how to go about getting them (without having to worry about speaking Spanish) at www.tannedtin.com and www.acuareladiscos.com.

Additional info can be found at www.myspace.com/tannedtin.

She said, "Anyone who knew Jeff knows that he had music in his head 24/7 so there's going to be lots of music in the film. Sony does have studio material that hasn't been released yet. We will try to use as much stuff as we can that people haven't heard before."

She also discussed rumours that Brad Pitt would star as Buckley saying, "Brad has never actually wanted to play Jeff, he found all those tabloid stories very funny. All he wanted to do was help produce a project that would have been close to his heart. Brad is still on a list of people we would love to have work with us."

The film, to be titled Mystery White Boy, is still in the pre-production stage and is expected to be released in 2008.

Khanate breaks up

Khanate has announced via the Ideologic home page that they have disbanded. The message is as follows:

"Recent discussions have dictated a direction where KHANATE has called it a day. Thanks for the six years of attention, interest, touring, megastructure and tension. We will continue to pursue the release of our 4th studio work (which is in the mixing phase) and the Japanese reissues of our first two releases, via Daymare."

And then there is this post on James Plotkin's site -

"I have decided to leave KHANATE due to the lack of commitment of certain members. The decision was a difficult one, as I've put six years and immeasurable amounts of creativity into the band hoping to take it as far as possible. The past year has brought about many missed opportunities and the realization that some players are more concerned with personal careers and day jobs rather than the advancement of music as an artform. I will continue to work with drummer Tim Wyskida on a number of other projects, mainly KHLYST and our improvisational duo. Gratitude to all those that have supported what we have done and acknowledged our importance in modern music. "

The album was due to be released on October 10th.

The compilation features the new sounds of Kingston, Jamaica on a double disc set and is named after the title track by Gyptian. Disc one was mixed by Max Glazer (Federation Sound) while disc two features the individual, unmixed tracks coupled with exclusive remixes.

Here is what the XL says:

"This week the label received notice of a potential legal issue regarding the forthcoming release. Multiple parties now are claiming exclusive rights to a number of the tracks on the album. "XL went to great lengths to contact the actual artists and producers of each of the tracks on Serious Times and though we completed licensing agreements with each party that we determined to be the copyright holder, another record label has come to us claiming they have exclusive relationships with the artists in question," said a spokesperson for the label. This is a sadly an all too common problem in the reggae world where album releases tend to involve a complex web of producers, studio owners, vocalists, programmers, musicians and small independent reggae labels in Jamaica and the UK...XL Recordings hopes to resolve this dispute quickly and get this amazing collection of songs into the hands of fans - where it belongs."
